7 Adults, A Bottle of Rum & Some Fingerpaints…
I never thought fingerpaints could keep a group of adults entertained for 3 1/2 hours, but it did. And now I have orange and yellow all under my fingernails...
As I mentioned in one of my very first blogs, one of the things I noticed first about Brac Reef Beach Resort was that all of the handpainted rocks & shells decorated by many of Brac Reefs' former guests were all missing. Hurricane Paloma took away a huge part of the colorful personality of the resort when she swept away all of the great artwork.
Well, as the great group of pirates that we are, we decided that not only did we want to leave our mark on the resort, but we wanted to help in the process of getting Brac Reef back to where it once was. With that in mind, my dad asked the Breakers manager if we could take some of the shells and whatnot from their property to the resort. Once we explained what we were going to do with them, they happily said we could take them. Later, we asked the dive shop if they had any paints and to our surprise they brought out this huge trash can full of non-toxic paints. Yipee!
We each grabbed a shell (of course, since I had to be different, I actually grabbed a big ol rock), a drink and a paintbrush. Three hours later we went from just the four of us (Daddy, Jessica, Benson and me), to then 7 of us, then to 10 of us all sittin outside comparing colors and asking for paintbrushes. It was definitely some of the most fun I've had in a while (aside from all the diving).
Last night, at the Dive Pirates award ceremony we presented the 9 shells, rocks and pieces of coral to Trudy and Mary. They were colorful, vibrant, and the best part of it all... They were made with LOVE!!!! We put our appreciation and gratitude for the resort, the owners, the staff, everyone into painting those rocks.
When you visit Brac Reef, make sure you find our shells! Oh yeah... look for my new friends too. There are a couple yellow, green and pink hermit crabs crawling around on the resort thanks to me. (Jacqson is the huge yellow one). I decided to do an extreme makeover and give them a newly NON-TOXIC paint job on their home. You're welcome guys!
